What You'll Study
You’ll begin with two core courses: Constitutional Law and Court Systems. These courses
introduce the U.S. Constitution, branches of government, the purpose and structure
of the American legal system and the processes of the courts.
You’ll then choose four electives from multiple disciplines. Options allow you to
explore topics such as business law and ethics, criminal law, civil liberties, forensic
law, school law, psychology and the law, constitutional history, sports law and American
politics. By choosing courses that align with your interests, you can build a legal
studies focus that complements your primary major.

What You'll Become
Studying legal knowledge can strengthen careers that involve policies, regulations, public institutions, individual rights, or organizational responsibilities. When paired with an undergraduate major, this certificate broadens your understanding of how legal systems influence decisions across workplaces, schools, government agencies, and communities. Flexible electives allow you to connect legal studies to your field—such as business, criminal justice, education, psychology, history, politics, or sport—while developing skills to recognize legal issues, evaluate information from multiple perspectives, and communicate effectively about policies and responsibilities. Although the certificate is not a professional license or a stand-alone credential for a specific occupation, it enhances preparation for law-related responsibilities, graduate education, and professional study when combined with your degree, experience, and career goals.
